    L.L. Bean believes that nature, culture and the classroom are all connected, and that spending time outside is what sparks their creativity. L.L. Bean is dedicated to supporting the creative arts and education communities in their own backyard, through grants to local schools and community colleges, museums and music festivals, and public programming and theaters.


    Outdoor Access Fund: The L.L.Bean Outdoor Access Fund seeks to empower people to experience the shared joy of the outdoors by funding organizations that increase public access to nature and recreational opportunities, while also promoting environmental stewardship. 


    Community Fund: The L.L.Bean Community Fund was created to support a wide variety of health and wellness organizations, social and civic efforts and educational and arts programs with the goal of improving both the physical and mental well-being of Maine people.

    • Health and Human Services: L.L.Bean believes every person deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life. With this in mind, we wholeheartedly support organizations that empower the physical and emotional well-being of people in Maine and communities across the country.
    • Maine Arts and Education: supporting the creative arts and education communities in our own backyard, through grants to local schools and community colleges, museums and music festivals, and public programming and theaters.


     

    History of Funding

    L.L.Bean has contributed over $4 million to statewide initiatives in Maine such as Junior Achievement and Jobs for Maine's Graduates, as well as local education partnerships.

    Please note, the L.L.Bean Charitable Giving Program does not fund the following:

    • Organizations without 501(c)(3) status
    • Individuals
    • Political, sectarian, fraternal or religious organizations
    • Athletic teams
    • Pageants or fashion shows
    • Expeditions or trips by individuals or groups
    • Advertising in programs, bulletins, yearbooks or brochures
    • Individual schools (public or private), classrooms, teams, teachers or parent organizations
    • Film or television productions
    • Organizations or projects focused outside the US

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are Maine non profit organizations. Support is limited to the following Maine school systems: Freeport, Portland, Lewiston, Brunswick and Bangor.

    Deadline Details

    Proposals from qualifying organizations are accepted throughout the year. For grants over $5,000, the deadline for the next year is mid-August, with determinations made in mid-December. For grants $5,000 and under, applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed quarterly. Product donation requests must be made a minimum of four weeks prior to the program or fundraiser.
