Eligibility Details
Eligibility varies by program and by sponsor. Generally, eligible applicants are elementary schools, middle schools, high schools or charter schools. For specific eligibility requirements, please refer to the official program guidance provided at the URL link in the contact section of this posting.
ArcelorMittal sponsored PLTW grants are open to public and charter schools.
- Preference will be given to schools serving diverse or under-resourced communities. ArcelorMittal also highly encourages applications from school districts that currently have PLTW programs in select schools, and are looking to implement the program more widely throughout the district. Schools must be located within the following communities:
- Alabama: Mobile County
- Indiana: Lake County, Porter County, and LaPorte County
- Michigan: Within 10 miles of the ArcelorMittal facilities in Southfield and Dearborn
- Minnesota: Within 30 miles of the ArcelorMittal Minorca Mine in Virginia, MN
- Ohio: Cuyahoga County, or within 10 miles of the ArcelorMittal facilities in Columbus and Warren
- Pennsylvania: Within 10 miles of the ArcelorMittal facilities in Coatesville, Conshohocken, Monessen, and Steelton
- West Virginia: Within 10 miles of the ArcelorMittal facilities in Princeton and Weirton
John Deere sponsored PLTW grants are open to public, private and charter schools. Priority will be given to schools that are in close proximity to a John Deere facility, demonstrate both need and capacity to implement the program, and have plans to require all students enroll in at least one Computer Science course during their high school experience. Schools must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
- New program grant: Schools must start a PLTW Computer Science program. Awarded schools must offer at least one course for the 2019-2020 academic year, and three courses by the 2021-2022 academic year.
- Expansion grant: Schools must serve a student population that is 55% or more eligible for free or reduced price lunch and must have an existing PLTW Computer Science program. Awarded schools must add at least one computer science course of their choosing in 2019-2020 that they did not offer previously.
Eligible schools must be located within 40 miles of the following John Deere facilities:
- Georgia: Augusta
- Illinois: Champaign, Quad Cities
- Iowa: Des Moines, Dubuque, Ottumwa, Paton, Quad Cities, Waterloo
- Kansas: Coffeyville
- Louisiana: Thibodaux
- Missouri: Springfield
- North Carolina: Raleigh-Durham
- North Dakota: Fargo, Valley City
- Tennessee: Greeneville
- Wisconsin: Horicon
The Kentucky Computer Science Initiative sponsored PLTW grants are open to public schools. Schools must be located in the state of Kentucky.
The State of Indiana sponsored PLTW grants are open to public and private schools. Schools must be located in the state of Indiana.
Deadline Details
Application deadlines vary thought out the year and based on who is able to sponsor funding at any given time.
At the time of this summary's update - Applications for grant programs in partnership with ArcelorMittal are to be submitted by January 31, 2019. Applications for grant programs in partnership with John Deer are to be submitted by February 1, 2019. Applications for grant programs in partnership with The Kentucky Computer Science Initiative are to be submitted by March 15, 2019. Applications for grant programs in partnership with The State of Indiana are to be submitted by February 28, 2019.
