    Summary

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a state and federally funded program that provides funding to licensed child care centers, adult day care centers, and organizations that sponsor day care homes to ensure participants receive nutritionally adequate meals and snacks while in care. Funding is also available for meals and snacks at emergency shelters and afterschool programs.

The objectives of the program are to:
    • Improve the diets of children under 13 years of age by providing the children with nutritious, well-balanced meals; and
    • Develop good eating habits in children that will last through later years.
The CACFP adult day care component desires to enhance the health and well-being of all adult day care participants by ensuring access to nutritious meals. This program provides supplemental funding to assist centers in providing a quality nutrition program.
